Phlebotomy is considered an entry-level career because there is very little training required to become a phlebotomist. A phlebotomist is a trained healthcare professional responsible for drawing blood from patients and performing related duties. They work with patients sent for routine blood work, patients undergoing testing for illness or disease, or blood donors giving blood for transfusions.
Phlebotomy technicians’ clinical duties revolve around taking blood from patients. The other tasks associated with drawing blood include:

- Preparing the area being injected
- Labeling, securing, and storing the sample
- Cleaning equipment, including tubes, vials, and needles
